Birmingham 2022’s contractors play a vital role in the delivery and staging of the Games and need a variety of personnel for generally short fixed-term roles. Because of the variety of contractors’ functions, Birmingham 2022 cannot be definitive about the exact scope and duration of the roles on offer, but an outline of the main roles and responsibilities for candidates responding to the B2022 Summer Jobs Campaign are listed below.
Catering and Hospitality
The Catering and Hospitality teams look after the food and beverage requirements for all client groups participating in the Games, whether the Games workforce, the 6,500 athlete’s resident at the Athlete Villages, the Games officials and sponsors, or the one million plus ticket holders. The roles on offer could be back of house or front of house, depending on contractors’ requirements at the various Venues.
These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Plate Waiting and Restaurant Work
- Till operation and cash handling
- Hot plate & buffet service
- Bar service including hot, cold and alcoholic beverages
- Preparation of sandwiches, hot and cold food items and salads for outlets across site
- Concession’s assistants
- Kitchen porter
Cleaning Services and Housekeeping
The Cleaning Services team covers the operational delivery of the cleaning at all our venues and athlete villages, helping to ensure our athletes, Games-family and spectators can enjoy the Games in a clean environment. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- To clean and maintain hygiene standards in all areas as requested, including front of house, back of house, and storage areas
- To keep all equipment within the area clean and tidy
- Help to ensure all clean and dirty equipment is returned to its rightful place after use
Housekeeping roles help maintain a high standard of living for our 6,500 athletes across our athlete villages who will see the West Midlands as their home during the Games. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Wiping and polishing furniture and fixtures
- Vacuuming, dusting, mopping, cleaning windows and bathrooms
- Regular refreshing of towels and bed linen
Transport
Transport roles support many operations including traffic management, parking facilities, and client and spectator transport.. They help to ensure all vehicles get to the right places safely and on time. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Assist with overseeing competition venue loading zones
- Support the pick-up and drop-off points for supplies and equipment which will be crucial to the successful delivery of the Games
- Assist with getting spectators and other client groups onto the correct transport services
Retail/Sales
The Retail roles will be responsible for helping our spectators have a great day out at the Games by assisting with selling our fantastic Birmingham 2022 merchandise. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Till operation and cash handling
- Deliver excellent customer service
- Become knowledgeable in the product range
- Assist in product placement, restocking and maintaining a clean and organised work area
Security
The security team will have a presence across all Games venues, helping to maintain the secure perimeter and the management of pedestrian and vehicle access. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Access control at Pedestrian and Vehicle Screening Areas – ticket validation, physical body and bag searches, crowd control, foot traffic direction
- Site perimeter patrolling
- Reporting and recording details of irregularities, incidents, searches, and patrols
- Protection of assets and prevention of losses
Stewarding
As the primary point of interaction with spectators and other Games clients, Stewarding roles help to provide a safe, enjoyable, and efficient experience. These roles involve a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Acting as a first line support to spectators and visitors to site, providing a professional and friendly service
- Traffic management and direction
- Ingress control – validating tickets, assisting with wayfinding and information
- Help to usher spectators to their seats ready to watch the action
- Supporting with lost and found items
