Five trees are to be removed to allow for the construction of the Spectator Mall, including a Field Maple, Manna Ash, two Swedish Whitebeams, and Rowan tree. These have been appraised by an arboriculture specialist and submitted to Birmingham City Council for approval to remove as part of the Planning Application process. The five trees will be replaced, and Birmingham 2022 is working with Birmingham City Council’s, Parks and Planning teams on the details, which are still being worked through as part of the reinstatement project.
It is also confirmed that the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Canopy project will be going ahead. This means a further seventy trees (extra heavy trees with a 20-25cm trunk girth) will be planted in Perry Park after the Games. Further details of this project will be communicated in the coming months.
