In early 2020, Birmingham City Council granted planning permission for the redevelopment of
Alexander Stadium, ahead of the Commonwealth Games. These construction works are currently
ongoing and include the new West Stand, a new main track and warm up track, and a new practice
throwing field.
As part of this planning permission, outline consent was also granted for temporary overlay
structures required to deliver the Games. We have since submitted and have had approved a
‘reserved matters’ planning application for the detailed plans of the stadium for its use during the
Games which include the build of two temporary Transport Malls.
